Novinka nazvaná „The Earth Is the Sky“ v zásadě nijak zvlášť nevybočuje z hudby, kterou výše zmíněné kapely pomáhaly před lety definovat.
Mám na mysli onen vodní živel, jímž posluchače neprodyšně obklopí, pohltí a následně smete, ne nepodobný tomu, jímž mě před nějakou dobu uchvátili The Atlas Moth, a který je tolik patrný v opusech „Attacus Atlas“ nebo „In Awe Before the Rapture“.
„The Earth Is the Sky“ skýtá vyjma vodní masy i odlišné zážitky právě v podobě obou extrémů – na jedné straně tak stojí masivní otevírák „Pale Explosions“, na straně druhé pak čistě post-rocková záležitost „Probing the Descent of Man“ a ambientní instrumentálka „Dyatlov Pass“, jež uzavírá postupně zvolňující celek prvních čtyř skaldeb a bere na sebe roli pověstného ticha před bouří.
Za uhrančivým industriálním black metalem jeho domovské kapely skladba ovšem chtě nechtě zaostává, a i když není ani vyloženě špatná, „The Earth Is the Sky“ by se mi více líbilo bez ní, protože jde o jediný prvek, jenž narušuje celkovou konzistenci desky.
Připočtu-li k pozitivům čistou, plastickou produkci a přiměřenou délku, nezbývá mi než desku doporučit. Stojí to za to.
THE MOTH GATHERER premiere lyric video for “Attacus Atlas”
Swedish atmospheric doom, sludge, post-rock mavericks, THE MOTH GATHERER, have released a lyric video for their new song, “Attacus Atlas”. The song is a part of the band’s forthcoming album, “The Earth Is The Sky”, set to be released on November 27th via Agonia Records. Wtach the lyric video at this link:
Commented by the band: “The Earth Is The Sky is an album where we tried to take everything as far as we could. There where points during the recording where we honestly spoke about giving up and calling it a day, it felt like we would crumble under the album. But we suffered through. The result is a desperation about how humanity drags it all to the end. Where A Bright Celestial Light was an introvert journey into decay, The Earth Is The Sky is a journey to the highest point on Earth where you sit down and contemplate about our existence while watching the flames from the burning world”.
The album features notable guests, including: David Johansson (Kongh), Wacian(Code), The Cuukoo (Terra Tenebrosa) and Thomas Jäger (Monolord).
“The Earth Is The Sky” was recorded over a period of two years in three different studios. Mixing & mastering duties were taken care of by Karl Daniel Lidén (Dozer,The Old Wind, Switchblade, Terra Tenebrosa). The artwork has been made by SCG, while Swedish printer, EJG, prepared the layout, creating an exclusive painting for each of the six tracks on the album.

THE MOTH GATHERER premiere new song (feat. Thomas Jäger/Monolord); new album details
Swedish atmospheric doom metallers, with strong sludge and post-rock influences, THE MOTH GATHERER, will release their second full-length album, “The Earth Is The Sky”, on November 27th via Agonia Records. In anticipation, the band has revealed a brand new track, “Pale Explosions”, which is available for listening below. The track features guest vocal appearence by Thomas Jäger from Monolord. Stream “Pale Explosions” at:
The Swedes took their time after “A Bright Celestial Light” – their warmly received debut album – was released in 2013. While the effort was immediately slated as a solid first step for a newcomer, the band quickly focused on their next chapter and devoted two years to perfect their vision. In return, “The Earth Is The Sky” feels more mature and multi-dimensional, with a breathtaking effect. Based on the formula of progressive riffs and twists through tempos, the album makes use of hypnotic passages mixed with tranquil moments and lusciously vibrant heaviness. On top of that, THE MOTH GATHERER contionues to experiment with different influences and emotions, to invoke a galvanizing response.
